Next complaint: After Avid/Pace makes wireless iLoks, the people complain that Avid didn't do a good enough job to make sure people don't misplace their iLoks.

Ilok on SD card would be even Sweeter.. SO it doesn't stick out at all...

i would also suggest lets say you are at starbucks or something and your ilok is at the studio you could log into the website and as long as you are online all authorizations work.

technically the network hub from belkin is working, I got the idea.

But legally speaking, isn't there a pb ? This system can be used to authorize several toolkits on several machines, with only one licence in the ilok, right ?

so, what about the legal details ? I like the idea but I don't want to run into trouble because a legal misfit.

How do you prevent someone from hacking into yet another wireless signal floating around? In fact... making it wireless would make it easier to hack, since it would have to be visible on a network of some sort.

Now we're introducing new drivers to the party, too. Yet another thing to go wrong with your system. Plus... does the iLok not communicate with your computer on a sub-OS level? I wouldn't want anyone or anything to be able to wirelessly communicate with my computer in that way... especially not one that I use to make my living.

It's a decent idea... but would probably cause more problems than it would solve.
They could make it a two part authentication dongle, one part wireless, the other part of the dongle would be a MSFT Reader. (finger print)

They could make the ilok small, just enough so that someone could use their smallest finger to setup the authentication process.

no way someone could hack without chopping off a hand

Nah... fingerprint scanners are far easier to hack than you might realize. You don't even need a copy of the fingerprint in question in most cases.

And.. every new intern/employee has to register his fingerprints where? This is music software, not an Atomic lab..
I love being able to let someone use my plugin ilok. In fact I have several with a couple of different "themes" One with PT, one with WAVES, one with the OTHER plugs, and one with VI's. Obviously I can shuffle these licenses around, but having them this modular allows me to just take what i need, when I need it, and can leave my home HD rig working for someone else.
I keep a USB hub in my bag....

REgarding the post about putting it on an SD card??? LOL..

I would venture that most of us with these great new ideas, have never worked in a Pro environment, with multiple employees... multiple producers, plugin needs. It is hard enough as it is! Ilok is not perfect, but it serves its function well, and the only ones with real complaints are those that have experienced failure.
So far, not me. ff
