My understanding is that Quicktime is too old for Catalina. Something about QT is 32-bit and Catalina can't use anything that's not 64-bit. That sort of thing has always confused me because we can still use 8-bit images and audio and stuff. Must be a different kind of thing altogether. Anyway, no, QT on Mac Catalina+ is not in the offing.

8-bit content is different thing entirely. Code that processes that content must now be 64-bit

Regardless of Quicktime compatibility, we really need some way of bouncing video files directly out of Pro Tools. This has slowed down my workflow considerably. I'm using FF Works to add audio bounces to video, but this is an extra step that adds at least 10 minutes for each round of revisions that I share with my clients. This is a huge step back on days when I'm doing a dozen rounds of versions and revisions. Any update on when there will be a workaround for this would be great.

It's not QT per say but rather many of the codecs that were never re-written as 64bit. Avid needs to pick ONE popular codec (H.264 IMO) and make it work for import and export from PT. That's all we really need to move forward.

Given that something as basic to Avid as video integration has been kneecapped, I'm really fearful of what's going to happen when Apple makes its back-to-the-future jump to proprietary RISC!

I've been on Apples and Sound Designer (!) since the SE days and lived through the 68x, PPC60x, Gx, and x86 changes. Time to drop into the bunker and dust off my IIfx and SampleCell cards!
