Default 9600 G3 upgrade....It worked!

I have always read threads that made me nervous about upgrading my processor on my 9600/300. It was starting to get pretty slow on complex jobs, especially because I am doing my midi on it now. The other day my computer guy gave me a Sonnet G3/400 card to try. We just stuck it in, installed the software and.....hey presto, a much faster computer. Zooming an redraws are nice and quick. I don't know really how much faster, but it doesn't feel laggy now.
I realize there are more variables , and maybe I was lucky, but I thought I would post this thread so that other 9600 users may feel more positive about giving it a go.

my config.

9600/300
196meg ram
OS 9.0
PT 5.0
Mix Plus

I recently installed the Newer G3 500/250 in my 9600/350. It worked right away but soon I had crashes galore. I did a clean install of Mac O.S., got rid of any unnecessary extensions, went back an forth with Newer via email and phone support. Since then, it's been rock solid!
(well, it did freeze twice) It crashes much less frequently than it did before the upgrade! Maybe the clean install of OS 8.6 helped out a bit. It took a little finessing, but it works great now!

Your mileage may vary, but I've had good results with the Sonnet G3/400 on 5 systems, no messing about necessary.

All OS9, PT 5.0 + MOTU etc etc.

All various 9600s and 9500s.

Some people said : the G4/400...sonnet did
not work with 8600 or 9600...but you guys are
very happy with yours sonnet G3 card.
This is good news for me to `cause I intend
to upgrade my 8500 with a sonnet G3/400.
...or G3/350! Anyone has this configuration???
Thanks!/P.

It's been well over a week now, and my computer has never been more stable. Not one crash!
Since mine worked so well, we just upgraded a 9500/200 in another PT 5.0 mix plus room, and again it worked instantly. It is heaps faster. We are both very happy.

Cheer
