Default Midi controller not controlling virtual inst.

Hey guys, I am running a Yamaha Motif XF8 through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4,using PT 10….I get a sound from the virtual instrument when I click on the virtual keys, but when I play the Yamaha,I only get the sound that the yamaha is set on,not the virtual instrument, I also get a volume level, when clicking the virtual instrument, but not when playing the motif…I have a feeling it is an issue with the Motif…..I have replicated steps from different PT sources, to no avail…..any help would be appreciated….thanks….Jeff

Hi

How do you have the Motif set up in terms of Midi/usb amd audio?

There is a function on all external Synths called "Local" on and off. You need to set to either On or Off, I forgot what it should be set to so look imto that.

Also, have you done all the settings in Midi devices and made sure that PT see your Motif as a Midi Controller

Best Regards
Christopher

For me, the Local on/off doesn't seem to matter(my rig works dandy).; What DOES matter are; Midi thru is enabled(in PT), My default midi instrument(in Preferences) is set to NONE, the instrument track is in Record-ready, and the Motif is correctly setup under Setup>Midi>Midi Studio(specifically the ports).

Also make sure your midi cables are correctly inserted. Midi out goes to midi In and vice versa, not in to in and out to out.

Cheers

Albee said…(Motif is correctly setup under Setup>Midi>Midi Studio(specifically the ports).

Assuming you created a new instrument (naming it Motif) and matched the ports. Then tested the midi., it should be fine.
Here is an Avid vid describing it. No assumptions on my part here. its a process that needs to be confirmed thats all.
