should I sell my Quantum?
My brother is a dbx dealer and convinced me to buy a Quantum processor for my movie scoring. On my last project, I used it to output the final mix to DAT. The wizard function and the Orchestral presets were used, compression and gating were then reduced. I noticed a big difference in sound quality when I listen to my music in the theater. Althought the music sound clearer and brighter, it lacks emotion(dynamic?). The quite passage became too loud and the big hits became very weak! Also the compressor pumping was more audible. I guess the Quantum is better for pop/rock than for music with very wide dynamic range?? Should I sell it?

Re: should I sell my Quantum?
Raywong,
Wow, I've had the Quantum for almost a year now and it has really been a blessing, to say the least. It helps to know about dynamics in the first place. However, I've actually learned about dynamics from using the Quantum. I usually use it for Pop/Rock -Electronic stuff, however, it was used on a classical piece I did for an indy film and it came out great. Sit with it, and the manual, and really get into those menus, before you decide. It's really easy after you work with it a bit. If all you do is movie scoring, then maybe, get something else. But, if you use it for a variety of stuff, overall, I'd say keep it for sure and work with it some more. It's really worth the while. Make your own Presets from the Programs to fit your needs. P.S. -No, I'm not a dbx employee. The Quantum has really made my home studio complete! Re: should I sell my Quantum?
medium attack and always a FAST release start with 2 to1 and take it from there! just a note! i do tv and radio work and almost never comp the mix' certain things in the mix sure! but its to easy to kill your dynamic range.
