Default Loud digital distortion

Every now and then (more & more than then), when I start up my PT and turn on the phantom power to my mic and record enable a track, I hear a load fuzz/hiss/crackle. To stop this from continuing, I reboot my MBP. I've tried just restarting PT but it still happens.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

Thanks in advance.

What happens if you enable phantom 30 seconds BEFORE you actually need it? Its not uncommon for the phantom to take several seconds to settle, just as its normal for it to fade off if you switch it off. Some mics will fade out quicker than others, depending on the circuit in the mic, and the current draw.

I know what you mean. There's a low thump when I turn it on and that settles down.
This loud noise stays. I've tried to let it sit for a few seconds, by to no avail.
