Or if you just want part of the screen, use command-shift-4. You'll get a crosshair cursor, which you just drag across the part you want. Either of these moves puts a file called "Picture x" in your root folder.

with any standard(non-laptop) keyboard, use the PrntScrn function(which saves to the clipboard) then open PAINT or similar and paste.

Yes, and the beauty of this is that it's automatic. You can hit that key combo ten times a second if needed, and you get ten files on desktop. Try that on a PC ;9

BTW, nowadays Apple keyboards do not have Apples anymore. It's called Command button now.

With windows 7, there is the CAPTURE TOOL . It is faster than opening paint, etc.
With the MAC is shift + Apple + 3 and you get a .PNG file, which seems to be better than the jpg format .

and if you tap the spacebar you can get just one window (crosshairs turn into a camera), if you want just it

Yep, and this is very cool! It also gives you the nice shadows behind the window (in case you're actually using the shot in some document...)

you can also take a picture with an old analog camera and get it printed on paper, you can make an album from several pictures, and when it's christmas time you can watch it with your family
