Default PT 9 and MacOS 10.6.5

So I just did a fresh install of my OS followed by the online software update and it upgraded to 10.6.5. Then installed Protools 9 and the new drivers for my 003. Everything seems to be working fine so far. Then I see that PT9 is not supported on 10.6.5 yet. So I guess that doesn't mean it wont work, they just haven't qualified it yet. It's great to be on the bleeding edge:)

Avid has not yet qualified 10.6.5 with PT9.
Also, Avid recommends using the OS X combo updates, not the online software updates.
Some folks have reported issues with Waves plugins.
YMMV.

Issues specifically with Waves and 10.6.5? Waves TDM or Waves native?

This one's probably easier to answer: I've always wondered... why is that? What's the difference when using a combo update?

10.6.5 works great here. I haven't noticed any problem with waves 7.1r15 plugins (diamond, masserati, kramer, jjp, cla, rider).

My understanding is that Avid performs testing using known, consistent, stable releases of OS X (i.e. combo updates). Using online updates means that you are installing OS patches with kernel and library revision differences that that may introduce instability.

I used to do online updates. But now I stick with combo updates because I can't afford to have my HD3 rig down.

The issue can be solved (if it occurs), by trashing all the Waves Preferences (Mac 10.6.5) and relaunching - at least in my recent experience on a Mac Pro 2.26, and 13" MacBook Pro 2.26 after installing PT9 and upgrading to 10.6.5
