Guys be very careful of going around in circles.

Disabling hyper-threading on a Mac was an important tool to use at times, but mostly before Pro Tools 2019.x with its much improved threading support. And the need to do this varied greatly with plugin usage and depth of plugin and bus chaining.

So let’s start by being clear what version of Pro Tools you are all talking about.

I am on the latest version of everything and I get clearly less errors by disabling hyper threading. I know it’s supposed to work better now, and perhaps it does for some but on my system, HT stays off.

And the next question is what plugins... this is likely very plugin dependent... but the good point here from this is *try* disabling hyperthreading if you are seeing CPU errors. (And please share as many details as possible if it helps you).

For myself, 2019.5 ended my playing with disabling hyperthreading, I use very few non Avid (complete plugin bundle) plugins, mostly extra stuff is from Positive Grid and Toontrack drum VIs.

I too am running the latest versions of everything on a Mac Pro Mid 2012 12 core. I just randomly grabbed DSP plugins and through them on. So, my test was not real world or scientific. My screenshot could better explain which plugins than I could. I like being able to turn hyperthreading on and off with cpusetter so easily, to see which is better for the situation I’m in.

"CPU setter" hyper threading off didnt help. Actually made it less stable. Latest pt with hdx. 12 core cheese grater. Better for me normal setting.
