I see we have similar Mac 5,1 6 core computers, Can I pease ask ..how do you find macOs Serria?

Any problems with error messages?

Guessing you had Lag with 12.8.2?

Thx

Were clearly at the dawn of a fix, and unlikely with Yosemite support, so I'm going have to way up the options. My current 12.8.1, has been the best of all 12 versions to date, and don't want to trade that for interrupted work flow.

I'll be surprised if there is anything released before mid-January.

I ran a “no pressure” all-day demo session the other day on a Dual Core 2013 MBP with PTs 12.8.2r2 on latest version of High Sierra with a Presonus Quantum ; 4 recording inputs, Kontakt, Waves, Lounge Lizard and other VI’s etc. at 50-80% cpu max. No crashes, no probs.

I like Sierra ..... I skipped El Cap altogether and went from Yosemite straight to a totally clean install of Sierra (wiped the boot drive completely) kind of a pain with the third party plugs

No I have yet not tried 12. 8. 2 I am still on 12.8.1 and haven't noticed any lag on it .

I was getting stopping and error message on one recent session only . But I removed the click track and then something else suggested? I think with selecting the ignore errors option ? I don't remember exactly . Anyway I have not had any more errors with that session. All my other sessions so far have been glitch free

Yea maybe skip 12.8.2 all together as there have been soo many who have had issues with 12.8.2 lagging and having a bad behavior so wait for .3 and stay put for now. Thats what we would do if we hadn't had the best luck with 12.8.2R2 on our two Mac Pro 2013 comps.

I bought meselfie a brand new shiny MBP 2017 the other day fully loaded with huge internal flashdrive and of course only 16GB RAM as thats all i could get but it came with High Sierra ... i thougt it would be many problems but hey .. I have used HD12 for a week now and everything has worked great believe it or not

Fast stable and reliable usage and big sessions mixed at hotels and airports with delayed flights at 155-176 tracks. VI's and many plugins, mainly Slate/McDSP/Waves/NI/Softube abd Soundtoys and a few others and maybe 17-25 VI and as many VI frozen too and not a hiccup at all.

I think there isn't much for developers to make HS work with their software as there would be much more issues already if it was a huge job.

Of course this is IMHO and maybe I am just lucky but have talked to both seriously awesome techs and programmers aswell as a few who bought the same MBP but use Live9 and LogicX and they are pleasantly surprised on how well it works too

I think all this worry will diappear as more and more people post here on tthe forum who uses HS as their Macs came like that and just tried and it worked out.

This is encouraging news! I think a lot of my problems come from using HDX, actually. It seems there is way less problems with a purely native rig and given the speed of today’s computers, I would never reinvest in a HDX card. Possibly hdn so I can get full use of my avid interfaces.

Yes. Sierra is great, I have absolutely no issue with it.

Actually, I don't have to complain about High Sierra either, except for the slow boot times (somehow related to TRIM and not affecting all machines) and overall system performance, which is slightly slower than Sierra (app launch times, page loading in safari, etc). However I have used Pro Tools (12.8.1) with HS and I had no problem. So for someone who buys a new Mac, I'd say just go with it, install PT regardless and I trust everything will be fine, even if HS hasn't be "approved" yet by Avid.

I made a test to compare High Sierra on APFS vs HFS+ a week ago, and it kinda messed things up. As a result I've decided to go back to Sierra for the time being and couldn't be happier right now. Eventually Apple will address these issues so I'm not worried. To be hones there's nothing really groundbreaking in High Sierra so at this point I don't really care. I'm waiting for Avid to release a "no-lag" update though...
