Default Control surfaces??

Its been in the wish list for too long now, awaiting for sthat has control well as value for money,
I cant seem to come to any sort of decision as each one has the best compatibility with ptools.

I am at home using a 001 and I hope to upgrade to HD at some time in the hopefully not too distant future, so what I need to decide is for now and the future.

I would love some help here and some good cases for all, I realize its been flogged to death but how about a poll and vote type thing to help all of us in this dilema.

I have the following on my list:

Mackie universal control with extender pack\s
Tascam US-2400
Command 8
or do I shell out for the Control 24

Please ad some advice and opinions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Look to your replies,

Regards.

The Mackie HUI is, IMO, a NFG POS. Having said that, the Mackie Control Universal seems to not have the same faults (knock on wood) as the HUI. It lacks decent metering (if you plan on looking at your surface meters).

Haven't used it.

Command 8

I have not spent much time with this one yet, but my first complaint is that the fader caps don't look like faders from a console, nor do they feel that way. They feel like pieces of plastic with a crater for your finger. The metering, while still not good (too coarse a scale), is better than the Mackie Control Universal. Plus, it connects to your Mac via USB and has MIDI I/O as well.

I haven't used it. I've seen them though. They certainly look impressive, but the thought of paying for 16 channels of Focusrite Mic pre doesn't appeal to me.
