Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Hello everyone,
This is my first post in the Avid Community and I am sincerely hoping that one of you can help me with diagnosing and resolving what has been a major thorn in my side for the past 48 sleepless hours. I have recently upgraded to Pro Tools HD 10.3.4. I am running the software on a Mac OS X 10.7.5. Whenever I try to open the Pro Tools software, the following crash report pops up: Process: Pro Tools [498] Path: /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools Identifier: com.digidesign.ProTools Version: 10.3.8.378 (10.3.8f378) Build Info: Unknown-10380378~378 Code Type: X86 (Native) Parent Process: launchd [303] Date/Time: 2014-01-13 09:17:12.093 -0600 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.7.5 (11G63b) Report Version: 9 Interval Since Last Report: 854 sec Crashes Since Last Report: 29 Per-App Interval Since Last Report: 178 sec Per-App Crashes Since Last Report: 29 Anonymous UUID: C0C675C3-6C7C-46DC-ADD4-7CCDA21313FB Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000 VM Regions Near 0: --> __PAGEZERO 0000000000000000-0000000000001000 [ 4K] ---/--- SM=NUL /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools __TEXT 0000000000001000-0000000000143000 [ 1288K] r-x/rwx SM=COW /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools Application Specific Information: objc[498]: garbage collection is OFF Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x945ea921 CFStringGetLength + 17 1 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x94606002 CFStringFind + 18 2 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bf7d17e FicMain + 48414 3 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bf7ef34 FicMain + 56020 4 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bf850a7 FicRegisterDirectMIDIClient + 1735 5 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c02a02d FWMidiCallback + 231133 6 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c02b9f8 FWMidiCallback + 237736 7 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c0903cc FWMidiCallback + 649852 8 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bfbd99e FicGetContiguousMemRequirements + 14046 9 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bf714a5 FicMain + 69 10 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0bf70860 InitFic + 160 11 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x09afbd26 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 9006972 12 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x09afcf22 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 9011576 13 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0aa68a8b MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 25181409 14 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x0059a78b TCommandHandler::PerformCommand(TCommand*) + 187 15 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x0059b0df TCommand::Process() + 31 16 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00590b8a TApplication::ProcessEvent(TEvent*) + 26 17 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x005914a0 TApplication::WakeUp() + 64 18 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x006f751b TApplication::CreateNewOSApplication(void*, void*, void*) + 667 19 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cbc0c _InvokeEventHandlerUPP(OpaqueEventHandlerCallRef*, OpaqueEventRef*, void*, long (*)(OpaqueEventHandlerCallRef*, OpaqueEventRef*, void*)) + 36 20 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94247313 _ZL23DispatchEventToHandlersP14EventTargetRecP14Op aqueEventRefP14HandlerCallRec + 1602 21 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94246790 _ZL30SendEventToEventTargetInternalP14OpaqueEventR efP20OpaqueEventTargetRefP14HandlerCallRec + 482 22 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x942465a8 SendEventToEventTargetWithOptions + 75 23 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x9425c1c6 _ZL29ToolboxEventDispatcherHandlerP25OpaqueEventHa ndlerCallRefP14OpaqueEventRefPv + 3152 24 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x942477ce _ZL23DispatchEventToHandlersP14EventTargetRecP14Op aqueEventRefP14HandlerCallRec + 2813 25 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94246790 _ZL30SendEventToEventTargetInternalP14OpaqueEventR efP20OpaqueEventTargetRefP14HandlerCallRec + 482 26 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x9425b571 SendEventToEventTarget + 76 27 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cba58 ToolboxEventDispatcher + 82 28 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cbb87 RunApplicationEventLoop + 236 29 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00700a5b DFW_EventLoop::RunApplicationEventLoop() + 11 30 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00590c5d TApplication::Run() + 45 31 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0acae1b1 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 27563015 32 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0acaf6d4 LaunchProTools + 1412 33 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0000f277 0x1000 + 57975 34 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0001037a 0x1000 + 62330 35 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0000effd 0x1000 + 57341 This last line is particularly troublesome, as I've gone into my user preferences folder to find and delete 'com.digidesign.ProTools' but I can't find it anywhere. Pro Tools is constantly crashing when trying to locate and activate my plug-ins. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Pro Tools about 15 times, I've try accessing the software from different administrator profiles, and I've tried trashing the preferences and DAE prefs... to no avail. Any suggestions/help that you can offer would be massively appreciated! Yours, Josh |

Re: Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Hi,
Maybe try removing all the plugins from the plugins folder except the mixer plugin then try booting PT TDM/RTAS... Library / app support / digidesign / plugins And also try the aax plugins folder.. Library / app support / Avid / audio / plugins Just move then to another folder for now whilst you test without them. It might be an OS thing so you could try running the Combo updater for 10.7.5 you have definitely trashed all the PT prefs as in the troubleshooting guide and repaired disk permissions??? Chris

Re: Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Chris,
Thank you SO much for taking the time to talk through this with me. When I access my users>preferences folder, I am not seeing a hint of either the Pro Tools preferences or DAE preferences folders... I am lost for words on this one. |

Re: Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Hey Chris,
I don't see 'library' in my 'user' folder... Any tips on how to search it out? I guess that I haven't been able to delete my preferences, because I haven't been able to access them! |

Re: Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Hey Chris,
As it turns out, my 'library' folder was hidden! I was able to trash my preferences. Now, however, when I launch Pro Tools, it crashes and automatically displays 5 separate but identical "An unknown executable could not be loaded. Please contact the publisher for support using this service" messages appear. Here are the first few lines of the crash report: Process: Pro Tools [247] Path: /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools Identifier: com.digidesign.ProTools Version: 10.3.8.378 (10.3.8f378) Build Info: Unknown-10380378~378 Code Type: X86 (Native) Parent Process: launchd [138] Date/Time: 2014-01-13 10:51:05.336 -0600 OS Version: Mac OS X 10.7.5 (11G63b) Report Version: 9 Interval Since Last Report: 298246 sec Crashes Since Last Report: 85 Per-App Interval Since Last Report: 253 sec Per-App Crashes Since Last Report: 25 Anonymous UUID: C0C675C3-6C7C-46DC-ADD4-7CCDA21313FB Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000 VM Regions Near 0: --> __PAGEZERO 0000000000000000-0000000000001000 [ 4K] ---/--- SM=NUL /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools __TEXT 0000000000001000-0000000000143000 [ 1288K] r-x/rwx SM=COW /Applications/Avid/*/Pro Tools.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools Application Specific Information: objc[247]: garbage collection is OFF Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x945ea921 CFStringGetLength + 17 1 com.apple.CoreFoundation 0x94606002 CFStringFind + 18 2 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c18917e FicMain + 48414 3 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c18af34 FicMain + 56020 4 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c1910a7 FicRegisterDirectMIDIClient + 1735 5 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c23602d FWMidiCallback + 231133 6 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c2379f8 FWMidiCallback + 237736 7 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c29c3cc FWMidiCallback + 649852 8 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c1c999e FicGetContiguousMemRequirements + 14046 9 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c17d4a5 FicMain + 69 10 com.digidesign.framework.DAE 0x0c17c860 InitFic + 160 11 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x09d07d26 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 9006972 12 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x09d08f22 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 9011576 13 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0ac74a8b MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 25181409 14 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x0059a78b TCommandHandler::PerformCommand(TCommand*) + 187 15 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x0059b0df TCommand::Process() + 31 16 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00590b8a TApplication::ProcessEvent(TEvent*) + 26 17 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x005914a0 TApplication::WakeUp() + 64 18 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x006f751b TApplication::CreateNewOSApplication(void*, void*, void*) + 667 19 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cbc0c _InvokeEventHandlerUPP(OpaqueEventHandlerCallRef*, OpaqueEventRef*, void*, long (*)(OpaqueEventHandlerCallRef*, OpaqueEventRef*, void*)) + 36 20 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94247313 _ZL23DispatchEventToHandlersP14EventTargetRecP14Op aqueEventRefP14HandlerCallRec + 1602 21 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94246790 _ZL30SendEventToEventTargetInternalP14OpaqueEventR efP20OpaqueEventTargetRefP14HandlerCallRec + 482 22 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x942465a8 SendEventToEventTargetWithOptions + 75 23 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x9425c1c6 _ZL29ToolboxEventDispatcherHandlerP25OpaqueEventHa ndlerCallRefP14OpaqueEventRefPv + 3152 24 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x942477ce _ZL23DispatchEventToHandlersP14EventTargetRecP14Op aqueEventRefP14HandlerCallRec + 2813 25 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x94246790 _ZL30SendEventToEventTargetInternalP14OpaqueEventR efP20OpaqueEventTargetRefP14HandlerCallRec + 482 26 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x9425b571 SendEventToEventTarget + 76 27 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cba58 ToolboxEventDispatcher + 82 28 com.apple.HIToolbox 0x943cbb87 RunApplicationEventLoop + 236 29 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00700a5b DFW_EventLoop::RunApplicationEventLoop() + 11 30 com.digidesign.framework.DFW 0x00590c5d TApplication::Run() + 45 31 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0aeba1b1 MFortressHWBPEntryPoint_exit_mfort6317_ + 27563015 32 com.digidesign.framework.ProTools 0x0aebb6d4 LaunchProTools + 1412 33 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0000f277 0x1000 + 57975 34 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0001037a 0x1000 + 62330 35 com.digidesign.ProTools 0x0000effd 0x1000 + 57341 Any thoughts? |

Re: Pro Tools 10.3.4 MASSIVE Crash Errors
Is this when launching the software only, or when launching a session? If you can open PT from the icon, but a session crashes it, hold the SHIFT key to disable all plugins and see if that allows a session to open(I know many will just double-click on a session to open PT instead of opening PT first; THEN opening a session). If the SHIFT trick works, then its a bad plugin.
