Default V Drums MBox 2 and BFD 3

Hello -

Sorry if this has been covered before but I have searched the forums, Google and BFD manual and I am getting nowhere. I recently purchased BFD 3 and I'm trying to connect my V Drums and use the the BFD kits for sounds. I connect the MIDI out on the VDrums to the MIDI in on the MBox, create an Instrument track, insert BFD but can not record. I have gone into MIDI studio to be sure Mbox is mapped to V Drums.

I have done this before with BFD Lite so I know I'm missing something (hopefully) simple.

Can someone please explain the path and settings for recording BFD samples with VDrums?

MacBook Pro 10.10.1
MBox2
BFD 3
Roland VDrums

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Rich

Is the V-Drums triggering the BFD samples?

Check the mapping used in your V-Drums module AND in BFD3. BFD3 can use GM drum mapping as well as it's own mapping. Something to remember is that BFD3 maps to separate MIDI notes things like the various hihat openings and closings, bow/bell cymbal hits, etc. And you can also change kit piece by kit piece the mapping in BFD3.

And make sure PT is set to use first selected track.

Not at the moment - that is my goal. I would like to play and record drums with BFD sounds. I have record enabled, even tried recording but nothing on the meters and nothing recording.

Thanks!

Make sure your drums are routed to the input of the instrument track

When I use In 1-2, it triggers but not correctly, for example Toms are Cymbals, Snare is Hi Hat...

Not sure if this applies to Mac, but on a PC, you need to go(in Pro Tools) to Setup>Midi>Midi Studio. In that window, you create an "Instrument"(the Roland kit), set name and model(this is optional and not required), set the incoming path(the midi source, in your case it would be Mbox Midi In, or something to that effect) and finally, set the midi channel(10 is usually used for drum/percussion sound). Only other detail I can think of is that the instrument track needs to be in record or record-ready

Is the Instrument track a STEREO Instrument track?(should be). I don't use BFD, but in Addictive Drums, there is a setting for E-drums that maps sounds for Roland or Alesis kits(poke around that plugin window or hit youtube for some setup guidance). The last option would be to re-assign each pad on the kit to the proper midi note numbers. This would take a while as it took me an afternoon just to get my Roland kit to trigger a cowbell on EZdrummer
