TECHNIQUE QUESTION
Hello. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. I have this situation that I need to record.
Its a round table discussion with several speakers and the goal is to have to audio be legible to transcript the conversation, I have the following gear to get the job done: Mac g4 laptop Mbox Microphones: 1 Neumann TLM 103 1 Shure SM57 2 AKG CS1000 1 Rode NT4(stereo MIC) I wont need to use all the mics but I think I will need to use at least 2 to get the best coverage. Any suggestions?? I also need to genrate SMPTE for this project any ideas on the cheapest and most portable solution. Thanks, Mike |

Re: TECHNIQUE QUESTION
Unless you're planning on mic'ing everyone, don't use a directional mic (i.e. any of the mics you listed). Pick up a couple cheap PZM mics, slap 'em down on both ends of the table, press record and call it a day.

Re: TECHNIQUE QUESTION
you're a little behind the 8 ball on that one. You're going to need to use both mbox inputs.. so you wont have a free input even if you had a smpte generator. You could do smpte to midi into some USB thing.. but that's cumbersome too.
I assume you're filming this, and therefore are concerned that the audio will drift. If it's DV, the drift shouldn't be too bad, or difficult to adjust to. If it's analog video.... you might consider renting a timecode DAT, and recording to that. Then pulling the DAT audio into pro tools via S/PDIF.. |

Re: TECHNIQUE QUESTION
Well.. its actually being used for transcribing conversations. using a stereo track I need to bus the two mics to the left channel and have SMPTE going on the right. With that in mind couldnt I generate like 5 hours of smpte into ptools and then just bus it when I'm recording the convo? The end result would be the conversation on one track (2 mics bussed) and SMPTE on the other.
Anything over 5 hours i would be screwed but I dont think i will go over that. Will this work??? M |

Re: TECHNIQUE QUESTION
If you get the motu microexpress, it will convert smpte to mtc and you will be able to keep your mics separate if need me. The the free program TcounterX will show you the mtc in smpte format.
