C24 jittery fader
Noticed today that fader 1 on my c24 is a little jittery. When at 0 it’s not at zero on the desk. Every now and then it jitters. I’ve used the utility button to recalibrate the faders but it’s still the same. Anybody no how to fix this please. Have I got to replace fader or is there a simple solution ??

Re: C24 jittery fader
I think the answer is.....maybe. If its possible to get the unit flipped over, I would remove the bottom tin and re-seat the little connector for that fader, but before doing that, make sure that the fader cap is clean(no gunk to prevent the sensing of skin capacitance) solid on the shaft and has nothing stuffed in the slot(like tape or paper to tighten a loose fader cap). Reason being that the caps are conductive and sense skin capacitance, which requires a solid earth ground for the C24(which it seems you have since 23 faders are working fine) and the cap(s) need a solid connection to the pot shaft(or whatever we should call the flat metal tang that sticks up thru the fader slot). To get a sense of what a bad ground or failure of the cap's sensitivity to your skin, try to move a fader with a pencil or by pushing with only your fingernail(maybe try this on a working fader to compare how it reacts against the jittery one). A replacement is probably very affordable and easy to replace yourself, once you get the unit turned over for access

Re: C24 jittery fader
If you're gonna go to the trouble of opening it up, just save yourself more pain and buy a couple of spare faders before hand - you will almost certainly have to replace it, and the job of opening the C24 is so onerous due to the excessive number screw count on the back, that it just makes no sense to do that job twice.

Re: C24 jittery fader
Thank you guys for chiming in. Replacement fader is £35 so nothing major. I made a video of the issue so you can see if there is a way to resolve the issue without replacing the fader.

Re: C24 jittery fader
I have replaced faders on mine, and it is really dead simple, although quite a process to remove the bottom plate to get access to the inside. Each fader has one connector to the internal board and 2 mounting hex screws. I have also cleaned all 24 of my faders which made a huge difference in response. Takes about 10 minutes per fader to take it apart and clean the track and the brush guides that the fader travels along. It was surprising how much lint and grime was in there, especially considering that it's sealed quite well. After a long night of cleaning and replacing 2 dead faders, it works and feels like a brand new console. Make this a yearly maintenance task, and always keep at least one spare fader on hand. The C|24 uses the same faders as the AVID SC48 Venue console. So if you can't find any specific faders for the C|24, search for AVID SC48 replacement faders. Should cost about $50.00 each.
Cheers. |

Re: C24 jittery fader
I used micro tweezers to lift out lint, and used paper towel and isopropyl alcohol on the main fader tracking plate. I would avoid any of the regular lubricants, such as CAIG F5 etc. These faders are much different than the ones that were in my Pro Control. Those faders slid on 1/4" round rails. The CAIG F5 fader lube worked well there. The C24 faders are completely different.
Isopropyl Alcohol, tweezers, compressed air and paper towel. |
