Pls. recommend great MIDI controller w/piano feel
I'm looking for a great MIDI controller, with weighted keys that approximates the feel of a real piano. I'm interested in a large-format controller, since I like to play piano -- something I can really play. Something I can use to trigger sounds in the software tank, and other midi tone modules. Please give me any suggestions. I have been looking at a couple of Yamaha models around 1-2k . . . .
Thanks! Joseph

Re: Pls. recommend great MIDI controller w/piano f
I have an ensoniq ZR-76 which has a nice keyboard feel, has great piano sounds, a real easy to use sequencer/drum machine setup and you can find them cheap! Negatives are that they are somewhat heavy, not being made anymore and 76 keys. Real piano players have liked it in my studio, and of course you can change the octaves up or down, but when you need all 88 this isn't so hot
I guess if I were you I would play as many as i could to find the best! peace daniel |

Kurzweil PC88 - they're not made anymore, but you can still find them used on ebay and such. Fantastic piano feel, decent piano sound and good controller options. Stay away from the newer Kurzweil stuff, the action is crap compared to the PC88 (or PC88 MX).
I'm a concert pianist, and the PC88 is definitely my favorite keyboard for piano feel. Some of the new Yamaha's aren't bad though for feel, it's just that their sounds suck. |

Roland XV-88
The feel, the sounds, the controls, the expansion possibilities, this thing is a beast. You can find them used for about $1300.

The Roland A90 is the best. It also is not made any longer, but it is the best controller of all the ones mentioned here. Has 4 distinct and separately controllable MIDI outs. Very good feel. Best key response and feel I have ever felt on a controller. Check it out:
