Choose the 11R, then the TUTORIALS tab. Watch all the vid's and you should have a better understanding of how Pro Tools works.

I don't know how many times I've read from cover to cover, it takes a couple of times at least to get proficient if you are a newbie

If you wish to hear the 11r WITHOUT arming/record-ready any tracks, then:

Insert->New Track->Stereo Aux

and have the input set to 11R STEREO L/R. (or something along the lines of 11r in, I can't remember the wording exactly right at this moment). If you are going to record then mute this monitor track.
