Default Tape Stop Effect?

Does anyone out there have any experience creating a tape stop effect in PT? I'm trying to create an effect on a track that sound like someone grabbed a tape real with their hands and made the sound come to a quick stop. Another way to explain the effect would be if you put your hand on a playing record and brought the sound to a quick stop. Kind of that "Eeerr-rrrr" sound. Any help?

try the SPEED demo by wave machanics. Works great for fast stops like that. No so for sloooow slow downs though. But for what you describe, it will do it.

cheers,

jorge

SWEET! Thanks to everyone for the input. The Vari-Fi Plug-in was perfect. I applied it to every track in my tune in one shot by highlighting in the bars/beat gray section. That is a very cool effect that I never used (mostly because it didn't have enough buttons and knobs for me)

Thanks again,

-Jay

In the d-fi bundle of plugs, I'm pretty sure that the vari-fi will do that. Check it out under www.digidesign.com, got to products, online catalogue, then software.

Thanks...I just got it. Amazing for that one effect (stop tape), but I'm also playing with the Sci-Fi effect. It's set on 'Preview' and I have it looping on a mandolin region while I play with the settings. Very interesting indeed. If I find something really great and usable, I'm gonna sample it.

Of this bundle, I only found the Vari-Fi useful, but man, is it ever. I've done a few excellent samples with it.(not the simple 'stop tape' stuff). It accomplished what I was hoping for, which was long time-range pitch transition, for those of you who even create samples.
If any of you have found a use for either the Sci-Fi or the Recta-Fi, I would appreciate to know what they might be used for.

thanks, Roy
