Default spdif out on audigy to spdif in on mbox?

is it possible to play mp3s on the audigy send the signal thru spdif out to the mbox spdif in to play on the monitor outputs of the mbox? I'm just trying to be able to play mp3s well using other programs without it stopping like the wavedriver does.

In order to use your audigy sound card you need a program ( like wmp) to play the mp3s.

Is your audigy sound card in another PC? if so Yes!

I'll have to try that. Theorectically that should work, no? If I'm thinking right, just select S/PDIF for the input on a stereo track within Pro Tools. You may have to hit record, but the sound from Win Amp or whatever media player you're using on your computer should stream though the PT track if the Audigy S/PDIF out is going in to the MBox S/PDIF.

I'll tell you what does work because I'm doing it, but may not be of any use to you. MBox S/PDIF out to my Audigy breakout box S/PDIF in. Light pipe out from my Audigy breakout box to the light pipe 'in' of my monitors. I do this because I do a lot of radio imaging production which involves using sound bites from various websites. This allows me to monitor my PT mix AND listen to wav and mp3 files through Windows Media Player that I may want to use in a production without having to use the wave driver. Pretty much, my MBox digital output and Audigy output are fed to the monitors simultaniously allowing me to listen to either source. But to do that, your monitors have to have a light pipe 'in'.

this is actually what im trying to do in theory. i can get it to work so i can listen to protools via the headphone out but not anything from the audigy to the monitor out on the mbox. i have both spdif out from the audigy to spdif in on the mbox and vice versa hooked up but only the opposite way works. a friend of mine has his monitors hooked up to the audigy and just monitors that way id rather keep my monitors hooked up to the mbox and just patch in mp3s from audigy but i cant get it to work.

Yeah, I guess the only reason it's working for me because I'm routing my main pair of monitors out of the Audigy light pipe. My anolog monitors that are coming out of the MBox2 monitor outs aren't reciving the Windows Media Player audio of course.

anyone know why it works one way but not the other? the spdif out on the mbox works and lets me listen to a protools session via the headphone jack on the audigy why doesnt the in let me send mp3 audio from the audigy to my monitors thru the mbox?

1) does that MP3 audio show up on the audigy's headphone/analog out ?
2) try connecting the analog out to Mbox line in..I think the SPDIF will only work in a PT session..I might be wrong, has been a while w/Mbox.

good luck,
