Default New To Pro Tools, I Need Advice Before Installing

So here's the deal. I bought a brand new Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 10 with a Free upgrade to Pro Tools 11. My main interest is the Eleven Rack, but I like the idea of the graphic interface for the 11R in Pro Tools and maybe trying a little very light and easy recording. I'm sure Pro Tools 10/11 are way overkill for me. To be honest, I'm afraid my laptop may not be enough to load and run Pro Tools. My laptop is a PC based Asus with Intel Core i3, 2.30 GHz CPU with 6GB Memory running Windows 7. I was told I needed at least Pro Tools 9 to run with Windows 7. Is my laptop going to be a problem?

So, I was thinking I could sell the Pro Tools 10/11 that came with my Eleven Rack and buy Pro Tools 9. Is this a bad idea? Would the cost difference between Pro Tools 9 and Pro Tools 10/11 be enough to make it worth while? If so, is there a certain Pro Tools 9 I would need? Would I need to make sure I buy an unused copy of Pro Tools 9 with unused iLok? Or will a used copy of Pro Tools 9 work fine. I've heard some bad things about transfers of Pro Tools and iLoks.

So, before I do anything with the Eleven Rack and Pro Tools (haven't even opened the box yet), I need to decide what I'm going to do about Pro Tools.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. I'm anxious to get going on this.

You can post a Sandra Report here and someone on the DUC can point out any potential issues, FYI a second hardrive would be necessary to record audio.

It would be difficult to find a new, unregistered version of Pro Tools 9. Whether or not to keep 10/11 or find a used copy with an included ilok key is your choice, my advice is look for a copy that an owner can transfer to you, the only requirement is you would need an ilok and ilok account, the average rate for one is $185 give or take (on a good day :) )

You can sell the bundle for..... well you decide

I found out that Pro Tools 8.0.4 will work with Windows 7. I can buy a legal copy for $59. I can then sell my new unregistered Pro Tools 10 with free upgrade to Pro Tools 11 and my new unregistered iLok. I'm not sure what the Pro Tools 10/11 with iLok should sell for. Any idea on what to ask? Here's the Pro Tools 8.0.4 I can buy. Can you see any reason this would not work?

Why tie a dead piece of software around your neck?

Any 11r updates will probably require 11 (maybe 10) it install (unless a freestanding editor come out)

i3 is fine for light duty stuff - I have ProTools installed on my work laptop (lenovo i3 - 4gb ram) when I travel and I'm able to run 10 tracks with minimal VIs also running Windows 7

The trick is you need secondary audio drive- external is fine

Keep ProTools 11 it will even run better on your laptop

I just got my little orange box also - that thing rocks
