If PT is your host you have to use SSC, if LAP then use ESX24 TDM with the ESB - ESX is my main sampler now and it's awesome. Sonically I can't say but I reckon they're either the same or very close. More filter options on ESX too.

You might also try Unity by bit heads.

Unity was for me uneven and not intuitive... SSC is so clear and simple.

Give Reason a try also. It has a sampler and a Synth and a bunch of other stuff to. I have both Reason and Unity as well as SampleCell, I pretty much only use reason now.

Re: Soft Sampler SOUND: SSC or EXS24?
i use unity and reason.
If you only need good samples for the PT sequencer, just 'directconnect' Unity to PT. Unity samples are high quality ones. It's simple and you don't need to open Unity, just create a stereo aux in PT, put unity plug on insert, choose a midi channel on the plug. Open Unity control panel preferences, choose 'direct connect' for output, save preference. That's all. Further you'll never need to open unity anymore, just use unity plug in insert. Not so not-intuitive... if you have to do particular editing and stuff with samples, then unity is not intuitive, that's true. Moreover you can convert all the popular akai and samplecell library into unity format using an utility called Osmosys. Reason is great for programming and drums sequensing and has a great interface and features though some samples sucks (strings for examples), i use it a lot for composing and midi programming. The problem of reason is that it's not internally 'plugable' to PT, it's a pity. matteo |
