Default Re: I need suggestions on what Mac Pro and OS works best.

But upgraded Ram ( both volume and speed ) would be of great benefit correct? A computer with an original 600mhz ram will be faster and more efficient with 1300mhz ram correct? The ram speed isn't dictated or limited by anything in the the original architecture of the computer?

I'm asking this because of the answer to #4. I wouldn't want to put priority on faster upgraded Ram if it's irrelevant or dictated by the original specs of the computer.

The statement is pretty much flat out wrong. The speed of the ram has to be matched up with the speed of the motherboard, the CPU and all the components of the motherboard. What's more, the ram has to have the correct number of wait states for the specific CPU. Not only that, but you cannot mix registered and non-registered ram. Some motherboards require ECC memory, some do not.

The best thing about Apple computers is that they were meant to be as easy to use as a toaster. The best thing about PCs is that you can change out whatever you want...as long as you know what you are doing.

Amen to that. Too many people put in faster ram than what is specified for the Mac in question and have both wasted money and problems.
