Default Icon pref for Fader operation?

So I am writing in some automation, and I need to be real precise so I'm using my mouse....and setting points etc....

Well when the track plays back the fader when it goes to infinite slams down into the carriage or the surface one or the other

and is either annoying only

or is also bad for the fader.....

It would be nice if there was a preference that allowed it to move and stop just before it slams....

Is this a preference? Or am I just lazy and don't want to write automation it's just shy of infinite?

Not a pref that I've seen. I usually have the faders in Trim.

Assuming you actually want the fader to drop all the way to infinite - and there aren't any errant automation nodes causing the fader to rapidly slam, and also assuming that it's not simply the inevitable clutch/brake noise from having the fader do a long throw move with a rapid halt :

1. Don't have the automation slam all the way down - if it's a rapid fade (and not one that could be better executed by an Audio fade vs an Automation fade) take it 99% of the way down, and have that final 1% as a more gentle slope.

Or

2. Disengage the faders, so that they don't move during playback.

Good idea about disengagement of the fader....

Yes I was doing precise movements and that led to rapid changes and that's what caused the fader to either slam or rapid stop.....enough for me to think that might not be good for my fader..

Thanks guys
