Default No sound from midi drums

Hi. I created an instrument track, added the XPand!2 plugin, selected Rock kit as the preset, went back to my track and opened the Midi editor and when I click on key 0 I hear nothing. My track has no input and Output 1-2. My collaboration partner sees movement on the audio meter but hears no sound. I don't even see the meter move. I've tried to add notes and initially couldn't do that but now I'm able to by double-clicking in the track area of the Midi editor but again no sound.

I should add that I'm running Windows 10 and he's running on a Mac. We collaborate via the Avid cloud.

What am I missing?

"opened the Midi editor and when I click on key 0"
What do you mean by "key 0"? If you are referring to keys on the QWERTY keyboard, that doesn't work(without a special utility to give the keys a midi note assignment, which is bad in PT because PT uses pretty much every key). The solution for this would be to add a midi controller or pad device

Also, if your goal is drum tracks that sound like a real drummer on a real kit, you will grow tired of Expand really soon. Take a look at Toontrack EZDrummer2, Superior Drummer 3, or XLN Addictive Drums2. Those are 3 of several drum VI plugins that can make really good drum recordings via midi

Did you record arm the drum track? Are you trying to play using the little MIDI keyboard on the screen? Are you sure there's a sample on MIDI 0?

By Key 0 I mean the 0 key on the virtual keypad (the piano bar). Not the actual computer keyboard.

No - I didn't record-arm the drum track but I've never had to do that before. And I'm pretty sure there's a sound on key 0 - that's where the kick drum has always been.

Also the "Key 0" sometimes highlights when I hover over it and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the highlight seems to get stuck on one of the keys and clicking other keys doesn't change that. I've tried clicking on multiple keys BTW - not just 0.

As for XPand!2, this is just for a scratch drum track that will later be replaced by a live drummer track so I don't much care about the sound.

Are you getting sounds from other tracks? For example, from an audio track?

And what is your selected output path for the Instrument track?

Yes there is sound on all of the other tracks. And the output path is Out 1-2 (or something like that). Same as all of the other tracks that are working.

The tiny keyboard in the plugin can't actually record(its just to audition notes and sounds). Best to get a midi keyboard, but in the meantime, you can drop notes on the piano roll with the mouse(using the SMART tool or the Pencil tool). Just set your INSTRUMENT track view to NOTES first.
