HELP!!!! Live gig recording tonight.......

We are recording a live gig tonight recording 16 simultaneous channels. We are using a 002r and Behringer ADA8000 via lightpipe. Everything is set up and working, but want to verify best scenario with those who have experience recording live gigs.

I posted this in the Mac forum, but figured I should post here as well as it is not so much a platform issue but rather an external hardware configuration issue. I need to leave for this gig in under 2 hours and can't have a problem while recording.


We are using my 002r which is typically hooked up to dual 2.5 G5 which has all hookups for best scenario.

However we will be recording the 45 minute set with a dual 1.83 MacBook Pro. The Mac Book Pro however only has 1 firewire input.

We have two options for external Lacie drives. We can use either my firewire drive through the extra firewire port on the back of the 002r, or can use a different USB Lacie drive via USB 2.0.
I have read something regarding the USB 2.0 being half duplex and the firewire being full duplex.

Currently we have wordclock set to the external lightpipe as we were getting clicking when set to internal.

We cannot have a problem recording this show tonight as it is vital that everything records perfectly.

I am looking for best internal settings and hardware configuration.

Put the Firewire drive between the G5 and the 002R. Do not daisy-chain off the 002R. If the drive case does not have a second Firewire port, find one that does, even if you have to buy another one. You can just take it back and pay the restocking fee. Consider it a rental.

I wouldn't trust USB2 to a 45-minute 16 track mix without thorough testing in advance. It should work, but sometimes cases, controllers, and drives don't agree. If you plan to do this more in the future, get an eSATA PCMCIA card, they're only $30.

I just did a live gig on Friday with an 002, an ADA8000 and a 1.5ghz G4. I was only recording 10 channels, though, but it did just fine via a firewire drive that I have. I recorded two sets and one of them was over an hour and a half long. I only used 2 channels from the ADA8000 as the other 8 channels came from the board I was mixing the show with. This was actually the first time I took this rig out to record a show and it worked flawlessly.
