Default Onboard 1394 chipset

If I buy a motherboard with a Via chipset, will that do the job for onboard firewire connections, or should I still get a PCI card?

Carl, the VIA chipset onboard firewire on my Asus K8V Deluxe works just fine with my Digi 002. I still have a VIA chipset PCI 1394 firewire card installed, but I use that strictly for external firewire hard disk drives... it's better to get each on their own firewire bus, but if you're sticking to just the 002 on firewire and internal IDE or SATA drives, you should be just fine with the onboard firewire controller alone.
