Default Re: New comp i7, pops, clicks @ buffers 64-128 w/ Focusrite Saffire 56

Here's my system specs, including the graphics card:

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=279758

I'm using a 42" monitor (it's a 1080P TV set) via HMDI, and a second 23" monitor via DVI, from the same video card of course. Pretty sure I didn't install any "fancy" (i.e. unneccessary) video drivers or software. Have you done each-and-every-single Avid recommended system tweaks?

Are your video cards in the very first two PCI slots? Try uninstalling your interface driver and reinstalling it. Also try plugging it into a different FW port! You should run a 64 no problem. I have a Q6600 that I run with no issues at low buffers, even while mixing heavy sessions. And I leave Aero and LAN turned on! But I have a feeling your issue could be the 3rd party interface. Can you grab hold of your old 002 or an Mbox from a friend to try out or something?

DJ Hellfire,

i used to have 002 and i could run @ 64 no issue (even tho it was different comp) but at the same time when i switched to saffire56 i had issues with 64 since then, pretty much i cant run anything with lowest buffer, some people are able to run saffire on 64, but some people can't and i can't, lowest i can go without issues is 128

My rig runs at 64, but I keep it on 128 anyway (record and mix). This is the one reason I would never run a non-digi interface. I know there are plenty out there that sound better, but I just couldn't deal with these little issues. It's bad enough Pro Tools itself has issues of it's own at times!

How's your Sapphire on changing the buffer size? Do you have to shut down and restart Pro Tools every time you change your buffer?

EDTI: BTW, I checked your site. You got some dope beats bro!

No issues here with the LS56. To change buffers? Yeah I suppose you need to quit PTools, change the buffer in Mix Control software, then re-launch PTools. It's a non-issue in my case however; I just leave it at 64, even while mixing.

This would annoy the hell out of me! ASIO4ALL does this on my laptop. I guess it's not such a big deal when your computer can handle the lower buffer without the need to raise it.

Exactly. So far I have not had a need to change it from 64. My sessions are typically 20-30 tracks, 2-3 VIs, and lots of plugs. For me, the Saffire 56 is working well @64. Sounds good too.
