Default Latest Mac OS and Reliable HD Accel

Hi DUC,
What is the latest version of Mac OS that you have been able to reliably run your HD Accel (ii or iii) system on, above the officially supported Mountain Lion (10.8.5) or have you ? I am running PT HD 10.3.9.
I was previously running Mac OS 10.6.8 due to limitations imposed by my previous Power Mac. It has been replaced with a late 2010 Mac Pro (dual 2.4, total 8 core, 96 GB RAM) which is capable of running Mojave, but I do not wish to upgrade to HDX at the moment.
I am in process of bringing the OS up to 10.8.5.
Your thoughts and recommendations are welcome.
Thank you and Merry Holidaze! ...J

I’m mostly running Lion. To me it’s the most stable. I do have a dual boot where I can run Maverick, but it’s not as stable as Lion

Many studios we go visit run PT HD10.3.10 on 10,8,5 and thats a really good stable combo!

PT10 has issues above 10.8.5 with missing graphics and no uninstaller and more.

Hi,

A lot will depend on what plugins and other software you’re going to be using.

Start with Lion. For me this was the most stable OS I rarely had crashes or problems. Once Lion is running how you want, clone your system to another drive/ partition and update that to Mountain Lion so you have both options. If Mountain Lion works out good then happy days! If not you’ll have Lion to boot up.

I have recently moved to mountain lion so I can run the latest UAD plug-ins but I have lost some reliability! I miss the stability of Lion but want the latest plugins so learn to live with the occasional crash or issue.

As I said this will depend on what plugins and other software you are going to be using.

Dual boot is the way to go

Thank you kindly, good info.

Any particular noted problems with HD 10.3.9 and Mac 10.8.5?

I noted that AVID shows that as a ‘supported’ combination.

Any particular advantage to updating to HD 10.3.10?

PTHD 10.3.8 on Mountain Lion here. As long as you're not a big VI user, it's tracking heaven...just totally bulletproof for me.

IIRC, 10.3.9 had some midi timing issues for me. It's been a long time though, so I may be wrong about that...

You're not wrong about that. PT 10.3.10 fixed that at least for me.

Same here!

We used 10.3.10 HD before scrapping 32bit alltogether and went HD11 so I would try out 10.3.10 but MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP if doodoo hits the fan

I bet your experience will be much better with 10.3.10 but always have a clone just for peace of mind
