Default Microsoft to permanently close all Store locations worldwide

“Microsoft is giving up on physical retail. Today the company announced plans to permanently close all Microsoft Store locations in the United States and around the world, except for four locations that will be “reimagined” as experience centers that no longer sell products.”

https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/26/2...ng-cities-open

“Our retail team members will continue to serve customers working from Microsoft corporate facilities or remotely and we will continue to develop our diverse team in support of the overall company mission and objectives,” the company said in today’s update.

This is a global trend:

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-51276322

Many people in Oz have reported that they prefer working from home, whilst many employers plan to allow working from home indefinitely, having already suffered the considerable cost in setting up a system that allows employees remote access to its database.

There are benefits for all, such as eliminating wasted hours commuting to and from work daily, giving them more time with their children or family, some of whom may have special needs; plus the extra saving to employers with reduced office costs. Less pollution with less traffic.

I hope Avid follows Microsoft’s initiative, so there are no more backlogs of customers waiting for support during this (and future) pandemics.

Avid has a big competence center in Manila, PH which is still under general community quarantine. Takes a while to get support business as usual.

Perhaps a small core of experts, with Jeffro and Tope in charge, could clean up the backlog in no time flat.

If Avid granted access to its database and paid such DUC luminaries as yourself, albee1952 (Dave), Darryl Ramm, The Weed, TOM@METRO, JoelG, Ryan Young, Ben Jenssen, Top Jimmy, Rich Breen, Bob Olhsson, Sardi, musicman691, Southsidemusic, midnightrambler, Dizzi45Z, DonaldM, EGS, crizdee, Eric Seaberg, zedhed, Marsdy, John_Toolbox, BScout, etc. – this would lift the pressure off Manila, which, we all know, is faced with problems far greater than Pro Tools.

Apologies in advance to any luminaries and their peers that I may have overlooked in my rush to post this before the kettle boils.

Well you may laugh, but I would consider this a PR exercise far more worthy than the financial cost: the “care” in Customer Care.

Thanks for the credit, but there really is no other way than Avid personnel using Avid data.

If all sub-contracted Manila staff are deemed as “Avid personnel” with access to Avid data, could not Jeffro & Tope’s “BBB” team of “Backlog Bottleneck Busters” culled from DUC luminaries work under the same NDA conditions?

The COVID-19 pandemic could be with us for years:

If Avid Support’s workload becomes unmanageable, unsolved issues could further damage Avid’s reputation and bottom line.

The expertise of Jeffro & Tope’s “BBB” team could be Avid’s saving grace.
Whether it eventuates or not – now that is an entirely different matter!

Not saying it is a bad idea, but still in principle anyone accessing Avid data needs to be on Avid payroll. We as moderators have strict NDA but still for some reason PTE spills the beans before we hear about it.
