Default Screen Recording Mac Using ScreenShot/Quicktime

Trying to deal with a bug with Sampletank 4 and Pro Tools, and tried to record my screen to send as a file. Figured that out, but when I chose my audio interface as "mic input" in Quicktime, when I played back the QT movie, it had recorded the MIDI notes and was playing them back vs. recording the stereo audio stream.

My gear and versions are in my signature; if anyone can shed light guessing this would be helpful not only for this instance but in general - thanks!
