Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
Lots of curves depending on your opinion, but mine is that until someone creates a DAW with mixer window closer to hardware consoles than PT then for me PT is the one.

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
Yeah with all the limitations they have and no controller support ... great

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
I am seriously considering letting my PT update plan lapse next April. I tried mixing one of my old projects in Reaper, and was shocked at how good it came out, compared to my original PT mix. The learning curve was significant, but not insurmountable, and the performance gains were highly noticeable into the double digits of CPU usage on my Windows workstation (Around 15%).
I don't make a lot of cash from my recordings, so 200.00 a year to keep PT up to date is a steep buy in for "features" that I mostly don't need. @ almost a quarter of the cost of a single year of PT updates for someone like me, Reaper is looking very good indeed. |

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
If Reaper floats your boat, then go for it. But as someone who gets sessions from other artists, producers and engineers to mix I can tell you how many times I've had to boot Reaper in the last 20 years: precisely zero. It's always one of these: Tools / Logic / Ableton. (Occasionally Cubase, but I haven't bothered getting it)
Maybe things will change in the future... |

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
I think which DAW to use is a pretty basic decision. If you have a full on studio with a number of different clients and want that realistic studio in a box, you go with ProTools. If youre someone who has a home studio doing music production and are focusing more on the creative composition aspect, something like logic is better. Ill probably never give up ProTools but when I have spare time and I play with logic, I cant believe how quick and easy it is just to get an idea together and sounding good.

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
Youre kidding right?? But I dont think you are. Its only version 1 and already my workflow improved and Neve summing and tape is magical. UA listens to its customers. Within a year it will surpass Pro Tools in just about every way. Youll be eating your words with Neve summing. Lol

Re: Is Pro Tools behind the curve?
^^ this.
As soon as you even think of outboard hardware or a hardware controller, PT is the only way to go.
