Default Reason / PTLE (different perspective)

OK, let's say that you DON'T want to wire the SM output into two jacks on the 001. Because then all you're doing is recording the output of the built-in, and replaying it in ProTools. In other words, you're recording analog audio into the 001, and not allowing it to convert the audio, which is where it really shines. The 001 sounds MUCH better than the built-in.

OK, so I'm trying to use the ASIO driver. The thing is, I've gotten it to work a couple times. But it seems completely random. The ASIO driver is in the correct folder, and Reason finds it ok, but I get the "may be in use by another application" error. I know there's nothing else running. I can even get that message when Reason is the first app started after a fresh boot. In addition, I've occasionally gotten it when I've tried to select Apple Sound Manager. Finally, midi is really shady. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I'm not even trying to use the 001 midi -- this is a Unitor8 USB module.

PTLE 5.1, CubaseVST32 v5, and Logic 4.7 all use the 001 just fine, as well as the OMS/midi setup, so it's just Reason that's acting up.

What gives? Anyone care to take a crack at it?

ps. BTW, my RME adat card should be in soon ... mmm ... 8 channels of digital audio into the 001/PTLE ... then I can *really* let the unit shine.

Yes. The entire second paragraph, where Reason won't use the ASIO driver. As far as I can tell, it's installed correctly, and it works with other apps. My midi has become shady of late as well ... just won't work sometimes.

My ASIO/Reason combo works great.

basis,

i've had the same probs with the ASIO driver on my G4.

for me, it works but no matter what settings i make, it all sounds crackly and poppy. so i've given up on it.

i guess i'm just trying to tell you others are having probs with that thing, too.

i'm gonna get that RME card, too. (what's the model # on that thing.)

peace,

t.

Have you tried opening reason first, then PTLE? I have to do so, otherwise PTLE grabs the asio drivers.

I'm not trying to use ptle and reason simultaneously, nor reason and anything else simultaneously. I cannot get Reason to use the asio drivers *at all*. Incidentally, doesn't ptle interface with the 001 proprietarily somehow? It wouldn't make sense for them to use a steinberg driver.

which ASIO drivers do you have. What EXACTLY does the version number say?
What is the "name" of the file?

I'm not at my mac right now, so I'll have to find out and let you know. But I just downloaded the drivers from steinberg yesterday and replaced them, just to make sure i had the latest.
