Old question regarding HD Native system
I am considering in purchasing a HD Native Thunderbolt + HD OMNI bundle.
The AVID homepage explains "Get the same pristine sound of Pro Tools | HDX for less with Pro Tools | HD Native. Instead of dedicated DSP, HD Native harnesses the power of your computer, so you can take on large, complex sessions". However, I also find several comments on the net mentioning that the HD Native Thunderbolt does not carry a DSP and therefore there is no release of CPU power. Can somebody tell me what AVID means in "harnesses" and also how efficient this actually is. Thank you in advance! |

Re: Old question regarding HD Native system
The ad is trying to say that HD Native card does NOT do any onboard processing. All plugins are run natively off of your computer. So how hard you can run your system is based on your computer processor only.

Re: Old question regarding HD Native system
While I understand(and agree) that the HD/Native card has no DSP, I can tell you from experience, moving from a DIGI003 to HDN gave me a very noticeable feeling of more power. I made this move while running PT10 HD software. I literally opened the PC, stuck the HDN card in and booted the computer. Then I opened Pro Tools and it gave me a message that I needed to reboot, which I did. That rig(i7 950/12GB RAM) suddenly felt much more powerful without any other change. Things that make you go "Hmmmm"
