Default High Latency for 002, would upgrade to 003 help??

Hi, with my 002R at 256 buffer, the latency is around 14ms, which is unacceptable for my setup. Would a 003 or a mbox2 have better latencies??

No. A faster computer will give you the ability to work in low latencies such as a H/W buffer of 64(Which can be done on your 002R).

So you're working with lots of Midi tracks I take it?

thanks for your reply Shane

I am working with a lot of virtual instruments, and I like to have realtime effects while tracking. Given the same buffer settings, other interfaces (m-audio, echo, etc) all have much lower latencies in other hosts. That's why I was wondering whether the newer models (003, mbox2) will have better latencies.

The latency is more a function of your computer's processing power and RAM. Let me describe it this way, my old computer with 2 gig of RAM and a 1.8 GHz processor would record 32 tracks at the 1024 buffer setting and around 40 plugins(but would not roll that session at a lower buffer). My new system dual core 3 GHz, with 4 gig RAM, will record 32 tracks with Dverb, BF76 and 4 band EQ on every track, and does that at the 64 buffer setting.
