Default Meter question

Couldn't get a good answer over the Digi forum, so I'll try the pros. I'm using PTLE, and I can't figure out exactly what db numbers the little "lines" on the graphic db meters actually indicate. The handbook says yellow (just yellow, middle yellow, all the way to the top yellow?) is -6db...what about the rest of the ref. marks? Just trying to figure out where I stand when something is "light green" or "dark green", etc.

Default Re: Meter question

try this:
First, command-click the volume readout. It will change to show peak readout..
Then click it again without command, and it will reset to infinity zero..

If you have a means of creating a steady tone or sound at a constant volume (oscillator, kybd, tuner, etc) feed that NON varying sound into protools at a low volume at first..

You will see the input level readout where the pk reading is. slowly increase the level and you can see what dB readings display for the different areas of the meter. it will change in realtime to display the input level...again, you can click the readout to reset it..
That should give you an idea of what the colors mean...
