So what happens if I don't renew?
Support Plan expiring in January - what happens to me if I don't renew?
I love how Avid "CLAIMED" that Cloud Collaboration would be released before the first support plans expired! Well as W once said "Fool me once, fool me twice .... you can't get fooled twice" |

Re: So what happens if I don't renew?
If you don't renew in 2015, you don't get updates and will pay more in the event you renew after this year.

Re: So what happens if I don't renew?
I want to be clear about what happens if I don't keep paying AVID $200 every year:
Does my current version stop working? Does it go into a read-only mode like Office 365? Can I still keep launching Pro tools 12 but just no upgrades? Currently have PT 11 but it's not the most stable on my OSX Yosemite platform, and haven't upgraded to El Capitan because of lack of PT11 support. Also, are drivers for 003 and 11R kept up to date? And what does a "perpetual license" mean anyway if you have to pay yearly? Thanks for the answers. Trying to decide about sticking with my "perpetual" PT11 or go for one-time upgrade to 12.

Re: So what happens if I don't renew?
The $199 will get you a perpetual non expiring license. Perpetual meaning it will never cease to work. You will be able to open and save any project you have already created, and create new ones as you wish. What DOES "expire" is your ability to upgrade that license to a new version of Pro Tools. So, if during your 1 year plan, Avid releases PT 13, you will get that as part of your plan. When your plan expires, you will have access to whatever the latest version was when your plan expired. If at a later date you want to "upgrade" that license, you will essentially have to re-purchase a new licence at full cost if you have let your plan lapse.
Pro Tools licensing FAQ You also have access to the "bonus plugins" during the term of your support plan. Those however will stop working when your plan expires, if you don't renew. Driver updates are completely separate from the Pro Tools plans. You don't have to be on any plan, or even own Pro Tools to get driver updates. Joel

Re: So what happens if I don't renew?
Thank you, that's helpful. The Eleven that comes as part of the 199 package is perpetual though from what I see.
