Hi, I was wondering if someone here could actually walk me through setting up my saffire pro 40 and my 11R. I have spent countless hours trying to set up these units and having no luck... I am also a newbie when it comes to pro tools and recording so a little guidance would be greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance!!

Spnkster,

I would start with your connections.

- Connect 11r SPDIF out to the IN of the Pro 40, and the Out of the Pro 40 to the IN of the 11R

- Set 11R clock to external SPDIF

- Match the 11r and Pro40 sample rates (ie 44.1, 48...whichever you prefer)

- Ensure that the 11r is locked to the Pro40

- Open Mix Control software

- Set whichever input tab to 'SPDIF IN L/R' (not in front of my machine so details may not be exact)

- Test audio from 11R to Pro40 is showing up and audible through the Mix Control software

IF your are getting sound then everything is set up outside of PT's and you can move forward to setting up your I/O in PT's.

As this thread got resurrected I would like to explain the issue that occurred so that customers have a good understanding.

The issue here had nothing to do with the 11rack.

The crash the customer described created a corruption on the firmware. This was a bug in our old versions of Saffire MixControl, such as the version the customer had here. Nothing had been amis on 10.6 or 10.7 but when 10.8 came out a problem cropped up where the computer would crash, corrupting the firmware.

Then the unit would be listed with no Outputs, or No Inputs. Some of you may have heard of this issue. We wrote a small script to fix the firmware, called the DiceTool.

The bug was also corrected in MixControl. Make sure you have the latest version of MixControl, currently 3.4, and this will not happen again on any Mountain Lion or forward computer. Rolling back to an old version like 2.4 on a Mountain Lion or Mavericks issue could present the bug.

Thus it is now very rare a customer may need the Dice Tool. However if you have run an Out of Date version and now have your Saffire saying an improper channel count in Audio MIDI Setup please contact us directly so we can help you out and get it fixed quickly for you.

As far as 11rack Setup with the Pro 40 this should issue should not occur again using the latest version and setup will be through the SPDIF In/Out.

Best regards.
