Default Choppy panning in half-speed mode

I see and hear very choppy / fragmented automation written to the timeline
when panning with the s6, while protools is in half-speed playback mode (Shift-Space)

happens only on larger format tracks involving height (atmos, 7.1.2, 7.0.2, etc..)

PT 2020.3 and .5

S6 Version 19 and newly updated 20.6

anybody else?

2xMac Pro 2014 6-Core, 48GB Ram, OS X 10.12
ProTools HD12 and Ultimate, 2x HDX
NTP Penta720 I/O + 192 HD I/O + SSL Madi Link
Sync HD, Dolby Atmos RMU
S6 - M40 - 32channel.
