Default Haas delay to widen the guitar ? It's an old old trick

Haas delay is simple trick to make mono guitar "quasi" stereo.. It's a simple stereo delay that leaves one side (let's say LEFT) untouched and delay (RIGHT) from 9 - 30ms. It's an old but effective trick. I know John 5 was using it on Marylin Manson tour and the guitar roar and stereo spread was huge. He used 25ms. I was speaking with their FOH engineer.

I was hoping the new dynamic stereo delay would bring us that feature

But it doesn't

When you have two guitarists each can send delayed side to the other PA side and you get Cross delay. A method widely used in metal studio production. And you really get a massive sound.

For an example you can take a look at Hass Delay and Cross Delay here:

I would highly recommend this (hass delay module) to find it's way into 11r.
It's a simple delay that can make a huge difference when used the right way.

Thank you

I like the idea, I've used this when recording occasionally and it's remarkable that you can't percieve the directional change from a panned, delayed signal but it does fatten everything up considerably.

Wouldn't it be possible to do this already, though? set a 25ms delay time on the stereo delay with a single repeat (I'm at work, otherwise I'd give it a try)

Post it up on ideascale though and I'll add my vote :)

No it can not be done + I would rather see it as one of the FX or MOD inserts, so we can keep the delay for traditional use.

I get the "massive" effect not by delays for heavy tones, but by using a stereo track and different cabs on either side. EG Mesa on the left, Marshall on the right (using red wirez). Just the tonal difference thickens it up beautifully. Problem is, I cant go back to mono tracks and I am addicted to it.

I use pod farm for my guitar sounds

i heard on the previous Nickelback album before dark horse all the guitars were done using Amp Farm. Now i love their heavy thick tone anyone out there give us some tips on getting that.
