Default Tweaking xp for protools

some of my rtas plugins lag by 1 second when using vocals and my playback engine every now and then says i need to boost the cpu ussage or get rid of some rtas plugins. the cpu usage is already at 85% and my buffer is set at level 2 or 0 most of the time. i'm just trying to tweak my computer for the best performance possible. i only have 512ram and i have a 2.4ghz pc running on xp pro. i am getting more ram soon but so far i just run into a little problem here and there. my questions is, does anyone know or know a good site that has info on disabling windows xp services specifically for protools and the overall system setup for protools?

also i have a 160bg hard drive and a spare 60gb hardrive. i'm running protools, ableton and reason ect. on the 160gb and the 60gb has old songs i'm cleaning up. would it be better to dump my tracks straight to the 60gb during recording and after i'm done mixing just put the final mix back on the 160gb?

You should always have your audio on a separate drive from your system/ProTools drive. You will get better performance because the disk doesn't have to try and read audio as well as read OS/ProTools files. Therefore audio is read more quickly.
