Noob getting started with post production
Super Noob Alert!!! I'm hoping the community can point me in the right direction. We are looking to transition an edit suite in our facility to also be able to provide high quality sound design and mixing for productions. We are providing high quality color grading in one suite, and wish to provide high quality audio finishing in the the other suite. We are working primarily in DaVinci Resolve for editing and grading. We're looking into ProTools as an option for exporting timelines from resolve for audio post.
We haven't really worked on any productions that needed 5.1, but i would like the ability to move in that direction. Can anyone make any suggestions on setups that would work well for this? We would need everything from software, hardware, plugins, and speakers. Not sure if it would live on a Mac or PC. I'm currently on a Mac Pro in that suite, but will soon be transitioning to a PC. The Mac could stay around if the mac environment proved to be a better option for sound editing, but I think we're leaning towards getting out of Macs. So in short, I'm asking for people the share their wish lists. If you had the ability and the resources to design a decent audio post suite, what would you do? Thank you in advance for your time. |

Re: Noob getting started with post production
Hd native card. Avid Omni interface. Mutec clock with video(tri level I think) and audio(wordclock) sync outs.
A dedicated video card like black magic. Surround speakers. Maybe the dynaudio "lyd" series. Any 5.1 monitor controller. An acoustically well treated room (very important). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do all 5 channels get identical speakers, or are there special monitors for surround channels? |

Re: Noob getting started with post production
Yes, all 5 speakers SHOULD match. Yes, you need HD(or now Ultimate) Pro Tools if your serious about surround. Non-HD software can be tricked into doing surround, but that's not likely to help when it comes to delivering product
