Default Xpand2 5000 error

When trying to open the Music project from the ProTools 101 Official Coursework (Updated for V8) the project wont load and comes up with

Could not complete the open session command because you do not have appropriate access privelages (-5000) while creating "Xpand2" while translating Tracks.

All permissions are read and write including the project folder, which is running from my external firewire drive. Xpand2 two is running fine.
I've also repaired permissions just for good measure and still no joy.

Any ideas?
