Default Confused about plugin count on PT HD

Hi

I'll be investing in a (probably used) HD system in the next month or so, but am confused about exactly how many of each different plugin I can run per Process card. I realise there's 9 DSPs on each, but can you run multiple plugins on 1 DSP, or is it literally 1 DSP = 1 Plugin?

If anyone could help me out, it would be most appreciated!!

Thanks

Hi,

You can run more than 1 plugin on each dsp. Some plugins you can have 10-15 instances of a plug and some will hog an entire chip!

Also some plugins will not do chip sharing!? so even if it uses just 5% of a chip no other plug can share that chip!! so buy wisely when looking at your plugin collection, just ask questions here before buying.

You can of course use RTAS plugs on audio channels, and share as many as you like, untill your processor is maxed out.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, was appreciated.

I guess I'm looking at Waves, URS and the other high-quality plugins. Could anyone give me a rough idea of how many plugins you can get per DSP, with typical plugins?

I'm probably looking at an HD3 (not Accel) system, would this give enough DSP for a typical 48khz (or 96khz?) session, or am I going to need to fork out for more process cards?

Thanks again

You could also visit the websites of the various manufacturers. More often than not they will feature an indication of how efficient their respective plug-ins are.
