Default No active input/output

Hey all, new to the forum .. studying at Berklee online for ProTools mastering ... just updated to the latest version and now anytime I try to plug in my guitar or mic and record, i get no sound and a dialog box stating "The track could not be record enabled because both an active input or output assigned" .. my apologies if this seems to be a dumb question but im new to ProTools!

Secondly, when this wasnt an issue, I found that all my instrument recordings were half a second delayed. Was told to click "low latency monitoring" but got no sound or signal at all when doing so ... HELP!!!

Hi Steisler - sounds like you need a basic and general start and overview of Pro Tools.

We can lay out the details in how to assign the input on a track but I think you would be better served if you try to find a general overview of concepts and get a good and thorough understanding of those.

I find it more important that you understand how the signal path is built within Pro Tools (even at a basic level to start with) than show you how to assign an input. All you need to do is do a search on youtube for that and you'll sind a ton of videos showing you just that

But again - if I were you - I would take things a bit further. You say you're studying Berklee online for PT ? I think you are going to get WAY more out of that one if you do a basic initiation to Pro Tools FIRST.

One I really like is the one on Macprovideo.com. I think there's a couple of free ones to give you an idea but they are well worth the small investment imo.

Hope this helps

Chris

Well, not that i disagree with you and all but, im sure i will learn that when im back in school at the end of my summer break here, isnt this a community for people that need help with protools? That is why i asked, because i thought someone could simply tell me.

How bout if we just start off with letting me know how to revert to PT's default settings, can you give me that info at least?

of course. Hope you don't mind looking at the video

for the inputs :

http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...ac.tMAvIbWX_vw

set your IO to default :

set pro tools to default :

trash the preferences in your user > library > preferences folder. The ones I would trash are the DAE folder / Digisetup and Pro Tools preferences files.

Here's a bunch of other useful links you may consider looking into :

and a bunch of videos :

Apologies by the way if you felt I wasn't 'giving you' something in my previous reply. If the post came across as such that was most certainly not my intention. Hope this one makes up for it

Chris

Yeah, that official reply from Avid was one of the worst I've seen. Imagine asking how a specific feature of your dishwasher works and being told to go study dishwashers..

I've a similar issue in PT10. I've mixed a song, I've returned to the session a year later and most of my inputs and busses are disabled and when I try to enable I get the same message ""the input could not be made active because the input path is not available". I can't reset all the buses to default cuz I will lose all my mix routings. Can anyone help?

BTW LLM is supposed to mute it so you can monitor through your soundcard.
