Default Play/Stop in PT 9

Hi all-
I would dearly love some advice on how to get past this problem. I have run PT 7 and 8 on my computer for years with almost no problems. I installed PT 9 today and I am at my wits end:
Whenever I open any session, whether an old session originally created with PT 8 or even a new blank PT 9 session and push the play button, the stop button fires immediately after it and there is no playback. I have searched and found some threads about this issue, but no answers. I have a session that I need to mix within the next couple of days and can't play it! Please help!
I am running PT 9.0.3 on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.7.
I have more than enough RAM and hard drive space (as noted this computer/set-up was running PT 8 beautifully just yesterday).
If you need additional info, please let me know but any assistance at this point would be greatly appreciated.

That happened to me a couple of times when I first installed it. I was able to get around it by opening the Playback Engine dialog, changing something or other (didn't seem to matter what) and closing it. Seems like it just wasn't sure what to do at first and I had to give it a little kick in the ribs a time or two. After that, it was with the program, as it were.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately, this doesn't seem to help. I tried changing several different parameters in the playback engine, and it still start/stops. Can anyone else please offer a suggestion on this issue?

Might help to know which interface you're using, too. Speaking of which, have you tried the Mac's built-in sound card? If it works with that but not your USB or firewire interface, that could help narrow down the hangup.

this EXACT same thing happens to me . I just upgraded to 9.0.3 last night(mac bookpro running 10.6.7) and now nothing seems to work
Honestly I think this is ridiculous. I am really upset.
I also just upgrade my rosetta 800 to run PT via firewire card. I can't get this to work either.
The times when I have gotten PT play(digi 003 only , no rosetta)I very quickly
get a -6086 error.
HELP!!!!!!!

This happened to me. Trash preferences and you should be all good.
