PT sessions on internal SSD

Question for smarter people than me. :)

Let's say I buy either an new iMac Pro next month or a refurb 2013 Mac Pro with a blazing fast 1 TB internal SSD - does it matter anymore if I run PT sessions on that internal drive? Does it still hurt performance and stability like it did back in the day of slower, 7200RPM drives?

Nope. It will work much better than most external drives most folks have.

Following up on this....one further question.....let's say I get a 4 TB internal drive, with 2.5 tB dedicated for samples, 1TB for sessions......is it insane to run all this on the same drive? Let's say it's an iMac Pro. :)

"dedicated"? You mean partitioned?

You don't partition for performance, that slows down an HDD and does not help an SSD. You partition to support multiple boot images, multiple different filesystems if required for some reason, or maybe for backup/recovery reasons. In fact if you have to ask... definitely use one large partition.

The "is it insane to run all this on the same drive?" question has been answered in DUC oh hundreds of times at least, by me alone.

If you meant that you wanna use 2.5 TB for one thing and 1 TB for some other files then no problem as long as you leave the drive as it came i.e. no partitioning.

A fast SSD will be able to run a LOT of data back and forth.

We have maybe 25 SSD's here, all Samsung and we have some for both sample libraries and sessions when we are on the move and Not at the studio in Thunderbolt cases but in the studios we have dedicated SSD drives for sessions and libraries.

So the answer is maybe get two 2TB SSD's if you wanna be sure not to over provision the one 4Tb drive. I would get two instead so you can have more control over that as you might not have many SSD drives.

Do NOT partition. Partitioning was necessary when there was a limitation on the size of drives Windoze supported IIRC but nowadays not needed at all (unless as was written you want to have different boot partitions).

I'm not SSM but I'm using Samsung 850 EVO's here. Decent price and who needs the extended warranty of the Pro versions? If you want good prices on Samsung ssd's check out B&H online - that's where I get mine.
