upgrade confusion please help
Hi,
I'm finding it very hard to find a definite answer to my problem on the site. I am using Protools 2018.10 (That is the latest version that is available in my account to download) I just updated my iMac to OS 10.13.6 and now Protools performance is not very good. How do I get access to Protools 2018.12? I don't want to change from my perpetual licence to a subscription plan. I just want to pay whatever the cost is to get access to the latest version available that allows me to stay with my perpetual licence and is compatible with High Sierra 10.13.6 any help appreciated, JJ. Also.....am I better off waiting a few weeks for Black Friday to update? |

Re: upgrade confusion please help
This has been discussed lots on DUC in the past. Avid will not sell you a renewal for a lapsed upgrade/support plan.
You need to look for Avid dealers who can sell in your area, many larger dealers can still sell those renewals. You can try Thomman. Not clear if you are on Ultimate or standard. [edit: corrected links, sorry for the confusion]. Here is the Ultimate product: https://www.thomann.de/gb/avid_pro_t...de_renewal.htm and standard: https://www.thomann.de/gb/avid_pro_t...an_renewal.htm You should call Thomman and confirm this is what you need. --- But I would not just assume upgrading Pro Tools versions will fix any performance issues. You should be starting with basic troubleshooting and describing clearly what is going on if you want help on DUC. Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 11-06-2020 at 03:10 PM. |

Re: upgrade confusion please help
thanks for the reply.
I had a rock solid system with Protools 12 and OS Sierra. i guess i shouldn't have updated. it seems mental that i can't pay to update. but if what I'm reading on the forum is correct, I'll be saying goodbye to Avid and Protools. Definitely not paying over €600 for a new perpetual licence. Definitely not signing up to a subscription plan. using Protools since 1999, sad to say goodbye but there doesn't appear to be any reasonable update path. I hope I'm wrong. |

Re: upgrade confusion please help
Hey Darryl - You shared links for Ultimate Renewal and Ultimate Reinstatement.
johnjoedaly - Based on their description and price it looks more like thomann.de/gb/avid_pro_tools_update_plan_new.htm for an expired Update Plan. You can use avid.com/find-a-reseller to find our resellers.

Re: upgrade confusion please help
OK saved by Jeffro.
But I really really want to discourage you from just leaping into upgrades assuming that will fix your issue. But even if it won't fix whatever problem you are having you might well want to be on say 2020.x for other feature reasons. I would not want to be without an active upgrade plan/let one lapse. But upgrades.... I hope you did not do an in situ upgrade of macOS. I hope you have checked the Mac is fully optimized. If having CPU errors I hope you have tried the extra optimization of disabled spindump--see the knowledge base and well discussed on DUC. And if you are having CPU errors or other weird glitches have you tried troubleshooting/removing plugins? There was one important (for me) enhancement in Pro tools 2019.10 with AAX processing. If you are suffering from AAX CPU errors it may be worth being on 2019.5 or later. But otherwise likely meh for "performance problems" (and very unclear what you really mean there). And if you do suspect you want to upgrade then you don't need to jump to purchase a renew now. You can try the free 30 day trial of Pro Tools Ultimate https://www.avid.com/campaigns/music...ware-pro-tools, that should be giving you 2020.9.1 now. When the trial expires you can apply a current Pro Tools standard license (e.g. that you upgrade to at Thomman) to that install. Remember to check all your plugins for compatibility.
