Default DCP headroom?/levels?

We're about to do a movie trailer which will be on DCP, Just would like to get some advice on how much will I go on the levels , I'm thinking of a -20 to -18 norm for the dialogue and a tag higher on the VO if there would be any...hmmmm what would be our ceiling?(for those trailer whooshes and swooshes) or do we go on full scale co'z its digital anyway? :) ...is that ok? btw we have 5.1 Dorroughs meters TIA!

If it's a trailer you must pass "Tasa" specs.
Here is a link:

ALL the info you need is here.
Follow it to a "t".

Sadly LEQm 85 is way too high. LEQm 78 would be more than appropriate.

Mix it at 78 and it will sound much different to the other trailers on each side of you. And it won't be for the better.DCP can handle the level, but it's the required TASA level that you need to worry about.

I didn't meant to mix in 78, I meant the norm of 85 is way too high. If TASA would lower the value to around 78 (or 77) the loudness in the cinema could remain on the same level for trailers and movies instead of being turned down to 4.5 for trailers and very often not raised again to 7 for the program... at least in our part of the world... I think if we could tie the responsible guys of the "standard" committee to seats and playback trailers mixed for LEQ85 in a referenced playback situation at 7, maybe they would slowly start to think about how to establish standards that could be useful, instead of what we've got now... sorry to rant, but this drives me up the walls... mixing trailers is not mixing but distorting...

hmmmm Thanks Dr Sound! TASA would be a good metering stick. We're just looking at if our mix will sound as good with those internationally made /Hollywood ones, I guess Dynamics could be the key ...As for the Leq..PT has a native Surround Scope meter , would that do? , my Boss told me its average Loudness over time and we should not go lower than -23, buttttt We're hitting -18 in some parts maybe once or twice ahhmmm We are mixing @ 85 db
