Default 16 bit optimized mixer in HD?

Is there no 24 bit optimized mixer in HD? I loaded in 5.3 and then 5.3.1 and all I see is a dithered and optimized 16 bit mix, no 24 bit one.

Looked on the install disc for 5.3, looked in the DAE folder, and in the plug-in AND unused plug-in folders. No 24 bit mixers.

What's up?

I think it is just named wrong. It is my understanding that HD only uses 24 bit mixers

Dutchmuzik is correct, HD only uses 24-bit Mixers, there is no 16-bit Mixer option for HD.

By default, in the Plug-Ins folder you should have a "Stereo Mixer" and a "Surround Mixer." In your Plug-Ins (Unused) folder, you should have a "Stereo Dithered Mixer" and a "Surround Dithered Mixer."

I guess were the confusion lies is looking at the kind of document it is. On my system it states under kind in the plug-in folder 16-bit optimized mixer document. Version is 5.3.1. Can someone at Digi fix this to read correctly.

Yeah guys, VERY confusing. It clearly states that those mixers are 16 bit optimized mixer files.

Thanks for the clarification on this. Uh, it is 24 bit right? (Just paranoid!)

I've had our test department look at all of the current builds and we're not seeing any reference to 16-bit mixers. You're sure that the files you're looking at are version 5.3.1? As Steve said, they should be named "Stereo Mixer", "Surround Mixer","Stereo Dithered Mixer" and "Surround Dithered Mixer." If you have the opportunity, I'd be interested to know if rebuilding your desktop makes any difference (I'm grasping at straws here!)

By the way, the mixers that ship with 5.3.1 Mac are our most powerful yet, and provide 48 dB of headroom above nominal gain. From the addendum:
"These mixers utilize multiple TDM paths to
maintain a true 48-bit signal path at all times,
regardless of the complexity of your mix. This is
particularly beneficial for maintaining head-room
when mixing load is shared between DSPs
on Pro Tools|HD systems."

Thanks,
Gordon

I am running 5.3.1. As stated above you will find the two dithered versions in the unused plugs folder. The mixers are all labelled 24bit which I seem to remember they were not in pre 5.3 versions. ie there is a 24 bit mixer labelled 16bit but not in 5.3.

WHAT ??? Ok in Protools under DSP usage it has HRStereomixer. In DAE folder Plug-in used Stereo Dithered Mixer, created Sat Jun 1 2002, version 5.3.2
16-bit optimized mixer document. Why is it saying that I am really confused now.

Hello Gordon. ALL my mixer plug-ins in 5.3 AND 5.3.1 clearly state that they are a "16 bit Optimized Mixer Document" under 'Kind' in the Plug in Folder in the DAE Folder.

I called tech support a few days ago and the tech looked up his 5.3 mixer plug-ins and got the same results.

What's up?
