Canopus advc 110 and external Firewire drive conflict
I’m operating on a G5 with OS X v.10.4.11. I have a Canopus advc 110 and I use mTools for searching and delivering SFX into my Pro Tools sessions. The SFX file are on a separate firewire drive, a LaCie Group SA 490 GB. The LaCie drive is plugged into the 800 firewire port and the Canopus advc 110 is in the 400 firewire port. The problem arises when I have video playing through the advc 110 and I’m searching for SFX, so mTools has a filemaker database open and dCode open to audition and delivery the SFX to Pro Tools. What seems to consistently happen is that dCode stops responding and subsequently every other program running stops responding and I’m in a full crash, forcing the programs to quit doesn’t work. If anyone can help put me on a path to a solution I would really appreciate the advice.

Re: Canopus advc 110 and external Firewire drive conflict
If you have a spare slot buy an PCI(e?) Firewire card. This will then let you run with two Firewire busses thus separating audio and video streams. This is a must if you ever use a Mojo.
